Honest Q&A for Potential Independent Contractors
Welcome and thank you for your interest in becoming a travel advisor with Modern Family Travel®! This Q&A was created to give you a transparent, real-world understanding of what it's like to build a travel business as an independent contractor with Modern Family Travel®. We believe in clarity, integrity, and setting you up for success from day one.
-
A: It’s a business. As an independent contractor, you are running your own travel business under the MFT umbrella. You set your schedule, choose your niche, and build your client base. We provide tools, support, training, and community, but your success depends on the effort you put in. goes here
-
A: You can expect a straightforward monthly fee that covers hosting, licensing, tech systems, training, and access to our award‑winning agency resources. We have no hidden fees, no upsells, and we are not an MLM, you are paid on your bookings, not recruiting.
-
A: Our advisors earn up to 90% commission, based on production and experience. Because we keep our team intentionally small, we’re able to provide a high level of support while maintaining competitive splits. Commission splits start at 70%
-
A: Travel advising involves delayed income. Most trips pay commission after the client travels, so it can take 6–12 months to see consistent income, depending on how quickly you build your client base. Advisors who stay focused and consistent typically see regular commissions by the 12–18 month mark.
-
A: A blend of:
· Personal network referrals
· Social media marketing
· Community involvement
· Reviews and repeat clients
· Niche-focused content creation
· Networking with wedding pros, local businesses, etc.
We teach strategies for building a steady lead pipeline, but advisors are responsible for generating their own leads. We offer marketing support, tools, and mentorship to help you succeed.
-
A: Unlike many companies, our owner no longer sells travel aside from a few VIP clients which means all leads coming into the agency are distributed to the agents. We share leads as they come in based on niche and who is next in the round robin, but advisors should not rely on assigned leads as their primary source of business. The most successful advisors focus on attracting the clients they want to serve.
